January 6th – 2011 – Jumbo Crane – Edmonton Photographer 365

As you go through my images you’ll come to think I have a strange and unhealthy obsession with cranes.  Not the birds, the big steel things that help build out tall buildings.  I’d always wondered how they build them in the first place.  I mean, the counterweights alone, how do they get them up there!!?  It boggles the mind.

Then one day I saw this thing.  It’s literally just lying in the street that this storage building is on.  In the photo the building looks like it’s directly under the crane.  It’s close, but the crane is actually right on the street in front of the building.  So, like 20 feet in front of the building towards me.  The picture doesn’t do it justice and I couldn’t figure out how to make it feel as massive as it is without getting other objects in there that wou just make for some very bad composition.  I think this does pretty good though.  What do you think?

Nowif I could just be there when they throw up the counter weights.

I R Photog! Make Purdy Peectoors! Seriously though, I'm a photographer of many disciplines based in Edmonton, Alberta. I just love a great image, whether it's a penny on a sheet of ice or a $100,000 wedding ceremony or a puppy jumping for a frisbee.
